EUTHANASIA

The decision to euthanize a beloved pet is often one of the most difficult choices an owner can make. Dr. Paula Monte is available to help guide you through this difficult time and will provide a quality of life assessment specific to your pet. If it is determined that a pet is in pain and discomfort can no longer be controlled or that their quality of life has deteriorated, In Home Euthanasia is one of the greatest final gifts we can give our cherished pets.

Choosing to say good-bye in the privacy and comfort of your own home allows your pet to be surrounded by those that love them deeply.

Offering home euthanasia is just one component of creating a better end-of-life experience for pets and owners.

WHEN TO SAY GOODBYE

As a veterinarian, Quality Of Life is the most important assessment in making the decision to euthanize a pet. Assessment will vary depending on the family, the pet, and diseases the pet may have.

A few examples of changes that may indicate it is time are:

  • Unable to walk or get up without assistance
  • Decreased appetite
  • Aggression
  • Incontinence
  • No longer doing the things they love (playing ball, etc…)

WHAT TO EXPECT

Please take some time to think about how you would like to say good-bye before Dr. Monte arrives; Such as who you would like to be present or a specific spot you would like your pet to pass. Dr. Monte will provide you with paperwork and an estimate of the procedure prior to her arrival.

Fees are based on your location, pet’s weight and after-care choices. After paperwork is handled and any questions are answered, Dr. Monte will give your pet a sedative to allow them to relax. Once your pet is soundly asleep (approximately 5-20 minutes) Dr. Monte will give the final injection.

After Dr. Monte has confirmed that your pet has passed she can step away, and you can spend as much time as you need with them.

AFTER CARE FOR YOUR PET

If cremation is your choice for after care we use Forget-Me-Not Pet Crematory or Pawsitive Memories.

There is a strict identification process to ensure that you receive your beloved pet’s ashes. For an additional fee, you can choose to have a clay paw print made. Your pet’s ashes will be returned to you once they are ready.

Private Cremation – Your pet is cremated privately and their ashes are returned to you in a complimentary urn.

Group Cremation – Your pet is cremated along with other pets and their ashes are spread at the Animal Rescue League Pet Cemetary in Dedham, Ma.

Burial At Home – Please research the laws in your town to determine if this is a good option for your pet.

If you feel that it may be time, please call Dr. Paula Monte to discuss your options.
